Mullarkey, Michael P., 92, died on Weds., October 24. Born and raised in Manhattan, Mike entered the army before his 18th birthday to join his two older brothers John and James in their defense of the U.S. in WWII. In 1947, he became a member of the New York Police Dept., where he rose to the rank of lieutenant and the head of the Bronx Warrant Squad. While working full time, he earned a B.A. from John Jay College in NYC. He married his soulmate Jennie in 1951, and they remained happily married for 56 years until her death. Together, they raised five children and supported them all through their college educations. After almost 30 years in the NYPD, Mike went on to become the Director of Security at Ramapo College until he retired in 1991. He then went on serve as president of the Bergenfield Board of Education, and he performed various volunteer roles as a devoted parishioner of St. John’s Catholic Church until becoming ill in May of this year. In the last few years, Mike took great pleasure in participating in the Bergenfield Golden Age and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his brother John and his sister Veronica. His five children (Christine, Jeffrey and his wife Mirna, Joseph and his wife Lisa, Martin and Donna), as well as five grandchildren (Matthew and his wife JoEllen, Molly, Peter, Linus, and Jennie) and great-grandson Caleb will all miss his unfailing love and support. A memorial service will be held on Saturday from 11-3 at Riewert’s in Bergenfield.
