Alfonso Rivera

August 13, 1933 — April 12, 2023

Alfonso Manuel Rivera, the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Rivera of Guayaquil, Ecuador the pioneers of the Rivera family, passed away on April 12, 2023, with his family by his side at Englewood Hospital in Englewood, New Jersey.  Alfonso was a long resident of the Bergenfield area since 1972, Mr. Rivera was born on August 13, 1933, to his mother, Luz Cobos, and father, Alfonso Rivera.

While in Ecuador Alfonso met a beautiful young woman, Alicia Rivera who became his best friend and love of his life. Alfonso and Alicia Rivera were married in 1959 and remained an ideal example of true love for 63 years. Together they had two (2) children, Luz (Lucy) Rivera and Javier (Rick) Rivera. With a hope for a better life Alfonso traveled to the United States with his family in 1961. Alfonso worked hard and was accepted to the City College of New York where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. Alfonso’s hard work and dedication to Engineering lead him to be a pioneer in the field. He had the opportunity to work at various companies throughout Mexico, Ecuador, and the United States.  When he retired, he continued to work as a passionate teacher (Mr. Rivera) in the community at Bergenfield High School helping numerous students achieve their life goals. 

No one who met Alfonso forgot his infectious passion for his hobbies and activities: Playing the Piano, classical music, teaching, and traveling the world.  He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and dear friend to many. 

Surviving family members: 
His wife, Alicia Rivera; his sister, Nelly Jimenez; his cousin, Manuel Rivera; his children, Luz Rivera and Javier Rivera; his five grandchildren, James, Daniella, Christina, Christopher, and Jovan; and his great grandchildren, Xavier, Mya, Nikko, Penelope, and Camila. 

Visiting will be held at Riewerts Memorial Home from 4-7pm on Friday April 14th with a funeral service at 6:30pm.

Alfonso Manuel Rivera, nieto del Sr. y la Sra. Rivera de Guayaquil, Ecuador, los pioneros de la familia Rivera, falleció el 12 de abril de 2023, con su familia a su lado en el Hospital de Englewood en Englewood, Nueva Jersey. Alfonso residió durante mucho tiempo en el área de Bergenfield desde 1972, el Sr. Rivera nació el 13 de agosto de 1933; su madre, Luz Cobos, y su padre, Alfonso Rivera.

 

Mientras estaba en Ecuador, Alfonso conoció a una hermosa joven, Alicia Rivera, quien se convirtió en su mejor amiga y el amor de su vida. Alfonso y Alicia Rivera se casaron en 1959 y fueron un ejemplo ideal de amor verdadero durante 63 años. Juntos tuvieron dos (2) hijos, Luz (Lucy) Rivera y Javier (Rick) Rivera. Con la esperanza de una mejor vida, Alfonso viajó a los Estados Unidos con su familia en 1961. Alfonso trabajó duro y fue aceptado en el City College of New York, donde se graduó con un diploma universitario en Ingeniería Eléctrica. El arduo trabajo y la dedicación de Alfonso a la Ingeniería lo llevan a ser un pionero en la comunidad. Tuvo la oportunidad de trabajar en varias empresas a lo largo de México, Ecuador y Estados Unidos. Cuando se jubiló, continuó trabajando como maestro apasionado (Sr. Rivera) en la comunidad de Bergenfield High School, ayudando a numerosos estudiantes a alcanzar sus metas en la vida.

 

Nadie que conoció a Alfonso olvidó su contagiosa pasión por sus pasatiempos y actividades: tocar el piano, música clásica, enseñar y viajar por el mundo. Fue un amoroso esposo, hermano, padre, abuelo, bisabuelo, tío, primo y querido amigo de muchos.

 

Familiares sobrevivientes:

Su esposa, Alicia Rivera; su hermana, Nelly Jiménez; su primo, Manuel Rivera; sus hijos, Luz Rivera y Javier Rivera; sus cinco nietos, James, Daniella, Christina, Christopher y Jovan; y sus bisnietos, Xavier, Mya, Nikko, Penélope y Camila.

 

La visita se llevará a cabo en Riewerts Memorial Home de 4 a 7 p. m. el viernes 14 de abril con un funeral a las 6:30 p. m.

 

Habrá un servicio en español con el sacerdote a las 6:30 p. m.
