Anne D. Hipshman

Anne D. Hipshman, age 98, of Bergenfield, NJ, loving mother and devoted grandmother, passed into God's hands from natural causes on January 4, 2014. She was a one-of-a-kind example of faith, hope and love. Anne Hipshman was born April 8, 1915, in Hoboken, NJ, to John and Carmela Marsicovete. She had nine brothers and sisters. After graduating high school in Hoboken, she continued on to what she referred to as the "College of Life." Raised from Italian immigrant parents, Ann developed and embodied an unmatched sense of family and was greatly loved by all who knew her. Grandma Anne or "Grams" was always there to help when needed, share a sentimental story, offer comfort, support and encouragement, make you laugh, sing you a Sinatra song, or give you a big kiss. Her family was her life and her view on life was "It'll Dry." No matter how bad anything gets – it'll get better. She is survived by her son Philip Hipshman of Bergenfield, NJ, daughter-in-law Diane Hipshman (Thomforde); her two loving granddaughters Kaitlyn Hipshman and Jessany Hipshman; & her brother Vincent Marsi of Totowa, NJ. Visiting at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 AM. Interment at Madonna Cemetery Fort Lee, NJ. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Gallen Adult Day Care, 10 Link Dr., Rockleigh, NJ 07647 or Alzheimer's Assoc., 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, NJ 087834.

Unfortunately being unable to attend I wasn't able to say my goodbyes and express my sympathies to the entire Hipshman family but am happy I can do so here. I will never forget so many things about Grams. From trips to Hoboken with her and the family, to hearing about "Number 9", Monroe St., or any of her many Hoboken and childhood memories. I have very fond remembrances of Grams lively and loving spirit throughout high school, college, and until her passing. Always calling me her pisan, she earned a special place in my heart that will never be forgotten. As Jessany said below, grams was a grandma to many of her friends as well and I could not agree with that statement more. The picture below is a tastament to that statement. I am glad that she can rest after her many happy years with her loving family. To Grams!

Grams I will truly miss you, you were definitely one of the greatest people I knew that lived through so much! You always had this lease on life that "It will dry" and things will always get better. Through your simple ways you certainly slipped in many essential life lessons that Katie and I will always carry with us. I love how you were not just my gram, but all of my friend's gram as well. You always knew how to make Katie or myself smile or laugh and ALWAYS made us feel special. I am so lucky to have had you in my life for so long and only wish that you rest in peace and enjoy being with your family! We always sang two very special songs that were "Your Nobody Till Somebody Loves You" and "I Got You Under My Skin" well Grams I will always have you under my skin and thank you for making me a somebody! I love you more and more and more!!!

Our prayers continue for you and the family. Her life was lived in faith and in faith our Lord will bless her with the promised eternal life in heaven.

My grandma Anne was a living angel who touched so many people's lives. I feel blessed that God let us borrow her for 98 beautiful years. Rest in peace now, Grams. I'll always love you more, more, more.....

I will always remember Aunt Anna as one of the first relatives I met when dating my husband. She was a good and kind woman who always made me laugh and truly did "let it dry" and believed that things would always get better. May she rest in peace.....
