Benjamin J. Verga 95 of Dumont passed away peacefully at home on January 29, 2016 surrounded by family. Predeceased by his loving parents Vincent and Rosalia Verga and dear siblings Philip Verga, Carolyn and Author Montanaro, Mary and Salvatore Marino, Consetta and Joseph Di Lenardo, Salvatore. Loving husband of Dorothea Verga. Beloved father of Joseph and Judith Verga, Edward and Elizabeth Verga, Isabelle Verga Driscoll, Lillian and the late Joseph Graviano, Charles and Karen Verga, Dorothy Verga, and the late James Edward Verga. Dear brother of Rose Verga. Cherished grandfather of Jeffrey and Shana Verga, Joseph and Janet Verga, Jill and Daniel Tabor, Brian Verga, Alison Verga, Eve and Mario Valente, Nicholas Graviano, Benjamin Graviano and Ana Mendez, Nicholas, Kevin, Jack, And Julia Verga and great grandfather of Jake, Zack, Connor, Cole, Kianna, Aidan, Kateri, Joseph, Cecilia, Noah, James, Michael, and Nina. Brother-in-Law of Charles and Linda Van Zandt, Michael and Carol Van Zandt. He was born and raised in Jersey City, served in the North African and Italian campaigns during World War II, graduated from City College of New York and worked for US Customs until he retired in 1980. He will always be remembered for his simple humor and one liners making all who knew him feel they were part of the family. Visiting Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield. All are welcome to gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 9 AM for the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield at 10 AM. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans www.dav.org or Holy Name Hospice.
