Bernard “Bernie” H. McGrane, 77, of Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 31, 2023 after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Bernie was born in Heidelberg, Germany on July 25, 1946. He moved to the United States in 1948, and grew up in Chelsea, NY. Bernie moved to Bergenfield, NJ in 1971, where he lived until 1993. After that, he moved to Staten Island, NY before relocating to his final home in Lake Ariel, PA. Bernie was drafted by the United States Army in 1966 and fought in the Vietnam War. He was deployed to serve overseas in 1966, completing his tour of duty in 1968. Those who knew Bernie remember him as a determined, dedicated employee and business owner, and a man with a strong work ethic. He was a steam fitter by trade who spent over 42 years working for Manhattan Engineering before starting his own successful business, Mid-hatten Engineering. Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Hildegarde McGrane. He is survived by his children, Bernard McGrane and his wife Nicki of Hillsdale, NJ and Kenneth McGrane and his wife Jenny of Monroe, NY; his grandchildren, Marissa, Bernard Jr., Kenneth Jr., Matthew and Brady McGrane; his siblings, Robert McGrane and his wife Lucy, Ralph McGrane and his wife Peggy, Agnes Ryan and Michael McGrane; many nieces and nephews and his former wife Marie McGrane. Bernie’s love for his family and spending time with them was foremost to him. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him. Visitation will be at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington Ave, Bergenfield, NJ on September 5, 2023 4:00 PM-8:00 PM. Funeral service at the funeral home on September 6, 2023 at 10 AM. Interment Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Sparta.
