Demont Weir Seagrave, 78, formerly of Dumont, NJ, died on June 12, 2015 in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Dumont High School in 1955 as a decorated athlete in football, basketball and baseball. Among his many athletics awards, he was twice recognized as The Record's Athlete of the Week. He attended college in Florida until he signed with the NY Yankees pitching double AA baseball for a number of minor league teams. Later, he ran a successful construction business in NJ and then pursued his passion as a restaurateur and chef in Miami Springs, FL. He relocated to Jacksonville upon retirement. He is survived by his sons William Kipling and Dale Christopher; his sister Carole Lee Morrison; his nephew J. Bradley Morrison and wife Sally; his nieces Barbara Morrison Grygotis and husband Anthony and Betty Morrison Boyd and husband David; and great nieces and nephews, Lauren, Kristen, Joseph, Christopher, Timothy, Brian and Sean. Family will receive friends on Saturday, June 20 from 2-6pm at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington, Bergenfield, NJ. A memorial service will be held at 4:30 pm. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Demont W. Seagrave Memorial Athletic Fund and sent to Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington, Bergenfield, NJ 07621.
