Edward D. "Duke" DaCosta was born on Oct. 13, 1931 in Englewood NJ. He lived his entire life in Bergenfield, NJ where he also worked as a Dept. of Public Works employee for almost 40 years. He was a member of the United States National Guard. Edward is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marie DaCosta, his son Frank DaCosta along with his wife Jennifer DaCosta. Edward was the loving grandfather of Jake and Ally DaCosta. Edward is also survived by his twin brother, Hedley DaCosta Jr., and his sister Bernice DaCosta Miles. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Hedley and Greta DaCosta, his brother Donald DaCosta and sister Delores Bongiavanni. Edward also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he was able to always recall their ages or dates of birth when nobody else could remember. There may be too many to list, but they all know he loved them very much. Edward passed away on June 21, 2016 peacefully in his home surrounded by family. This was after a long battle against diabetes and leukemia. Stories of his God given brute strength were amazing, but also true. This strength allowed him to fight his illness for years. Visiting at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM with a funeral service at 8:30 PM. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers donations to the Bergenfield Vol. Ambulance Corp or Bergenfield Police in Edward's memory would be appreciated.
