Kneisler, Edward J. II (Ned) of Bergenfield passed away suddenly on Friday September 4, 2015. Beloved husband of Cynthia (Kirsch) Kneisler. Loving father of Edward J. Kneisler III, Eric Kneisler, and Alex Kneisler. Dear brother of Lynmarie (Kneisler) McGoldrick and the late James P. Kneisler (2009). Cherished nephew of Eleanor Hubner, Charlotte Roemer and Fred Kneisler. Devoted Brother-in-law to Nancy and Gerard Naylis, Lora and Joseph Schade, Robert E. Kirsch, William and Kara Kirsch, and James Kirsch and Jill Kravitz. Loving Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephew. Ned was the Superintendent of the Department of Public Works for the Boro of Bergenfield retiring June 30, 2015. He began his 36 year career in January 1979, serving as Mechanic's Helper, Recycling Coordinator, Assistant Superintendent and, finally, Superintendent. He was also a Certified Public Works Manager. He previously worked for Grand Union Supermarkets as a store clerk. Ned was a 40 year member of the Bergenfield Volunteer Fire Department. He became a member of Alert Fire Company #1 Inc. in January 1975. He held the rank of Lieutenant, Captain and Deputy Chief for the Company several times and served as Fire Chief for the Department in 1992, 2001, and 2010. He also held the executive positions of Trustee, Secretary, Vice President, and was current President of Alert Fire Company #1. He was also recently appointed the Bergen County Fire Academy Advisory Board. Ned served as an EMT for the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Inc. for 14 years where he was elected to the position of Lieutenant and Captain several times. He also served in the Bergenfield Fire Rescue Squad for 23 years. Ned was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America and served in the New Milford Fire Rescue Explorer Post 402. His volunteer time did not end there. Ned also was a Coach with the Bergenfield Little League serving on several teams, most notably the Knights of Columbus. During his tenure the team won 4 Championship Titles. He also coached a championship team for the Bergenfield P.A.L. Roller Hockey League. Visiting at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield on Tuesday 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM. Fire Dept. service at 8 PM. All will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 AM for the processional to the service at South Presbyterian Church at 11 AM. Interment in South Church Cemetery, Bergenfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alert Fire Company #1 at 61 W. Church St Bergenfield NJ 07621.
