Elizabeth Toriello

July 2, 1928 — October 31, 2023

Bergenfield

Elizabeth Harsche Toriello, of Cresskill, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 31st,
2023, at the age of 95.

“Liz,” as she was known, found great joy and fulfillment in time spent with her family. She was a
loving mother to her three children: Karen Addicks, of Bergenfield and Brant Beach, Dean of
Ada, Michigan, and Gary Toriello, of Jersey City. Later, she welcomed her children’s spouses
into her family: Dean’s wife Helga and Karen’s husband Frank. Liz was a beloved and devoted
grandmother to her five grandchildren: Krista Toriello (Kris Kiel), Allison Toriello (Michael Fredo),
Daniel Falkner (Shannon), Amanda Marschalk (Scott) and Natalie Davis (Brad). She was also a
great-grandmother to seven: Sarah, Kate, Jackson, Beau, Dean, Owen, and Julia.

Liz was devoted to her faith and was, for many years, a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist in
Bergenfield and became a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel when she moved to
Tenafly.

Born in 1928, and raised as one of ten children in Sedley, Saskatchewan, Canada, Liz’s early
life was spent in the company of her sisters, both in play and in work helping their widowed
mother support her large family. As a young woman, Liz moved to Montreal, where she met and
married Dino “Dan” Toriello of Bergenfield in 1950, after meeting on a blind date. Dan and Liz
moved to Bergenfield that same year, where they bought a home and raised their children. She
was married to Dan for 46 years, and mourned his passing in 1996.

During her time in Bergenfield, Liz spent time in several creative endeavors, including cooking,
painting, and quilting. She also enjoyed attending events through her husband’s Lions Club.
After raising her children, Liz took a job as a hostess at a local restaurant, where she worked for
many years, becoming a familiar and favorite face to her customers. She adored caring for her
grandchildren when they were young and, as they got older, attending their sports games,
where she was a fixture at nearly every game. She and her husband enjoyed traveling.

In her retirement, Liz enjoyed going to movies with her dear friend and niece Geraldine Toriello
and visiting with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Liz was most proud of her
many hours of volunteering at Englewood Hospital. She also enjoyed reading
novels, exercising, taking art classes, and keeping up with politics and current events. Liz was
known among her family and friends for her talents as an artist, both as a painter and as a
quilter, and for her delicious Italian meals and impeccable sense of style in fashion.
Liz will be deeply missed by her family, and her thoughtfulness, generosity, honesty, sense of
humor, and pragmatism are traits that her family will cherish forever.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 6th at 10AM at Riewerts Memorial
