Emma CornAC.

December 20, 1918 — February 20, 2018

Emma Catherine Corne

Emma was born in New York City on December 20, 1918. Her parents were Emil Joseph Steenbeke and Julia Anne Schaffhauser Steenbeke. Her father worked in the taxi and automotive industry and her mother was basically a homemaker.

After a number of years, Emma and her parents moved to Tenafly, New Jersey. At that time her father, Emil, opened and operated an automotive repair shop and service station in Lodi, NJ. Emma attended school in Tenafly and graduated from Tenafly High School in 1936. Following high school, she worked as an administrative assistant at a local real estate and insurance firm.

Emma met Albert Arthur Corne during her high school years and they later married on January 2, 1943. At that time, Arthur was serving in the United States Army Air Corps, and the two of them moved to Florence, SC. Shortly thereafter, Arthur was sent overseas to India where he served until late in WWII.

Eventually, Emma and Arthur moved back to Tenafly where their only child, Elayne, was born in December of 1947. In 1952, the family moved to Bergenfield where Emma continued to reside until the death of Arthur in 1979. Shortly thereafter, Emma moved in with her daughter Elayne and Elayne's husband, Richard Meadows, eventually relocating to Kinnelon, NJ.

Emma lived in Kinnelon for over 25 years and became "Nana" to two grandchildren, Julia Meadows DiDonna and Christopher Meadows. She helped nurture her grandchildren until the time they both left for college and remained very close to them her entire life. Emma also welcomed two new great grandchildren in the past 4 years, Nathan Meadows and Colton Meadows.

Emma spent most of her final years in both Florida and New Jersey. She enjoyed Florida's warm weather in the fall, winter and spring, but also enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and family in New Jersey each summer.

During her lifetime, Emma really enjoyed her pet animals. She cared for several dogs and cats throughout her lifetime, especially the cuddly cats in her later years.
