George A. Meyer

George A Meyer, 93, of Bergenfield went to be with the Lord on March 12, 2015. Born Nov. 24, 1921, he grew up in the Inwood section of NYC across the street from his beloved wife Fanny. They married in 1947 and moved to Bergenfield in 1958. He is survived by his daughter Catherine, son George and his wife Pamela, and son G. Michael and his wife Bethany. He is also grandfather to Bliss and her husband Shaun Glover, G. George Meyer and G. Joseph Meyer and great grandfather to Shaun Jr., Kylah, and Caiden Glover. George was a veteran of WWII, 1st Sgt., 115th Battalion Combat Engineers serving in the Pacific Theater. A master carpenter, he retired from Industrial Displays and Exhibits in 1987 as a partner in the firm. For 37 yrs. he and Fanny were avid square dancers dancing around the country; members of Tenafly Twirlers and Happy Squares forging enduring friendships that exist today. Dad enjoyed taking care of his home, playing scrabble with "Luce"; talking daily to "Hop" and "Little Hop"; and building and fixing things with "Dust" A gentle, kind man, Big George could seemingly repair anything which he often did for most anyone who asked. He was loved by young and old, his friends and his devoted family; he is greatly missed and remains forever in our hearts. A memorial service will be held at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave, Bergenfield, Saturday March 21st, 1pm.

Dear Cathy, George, and Michael We are so sorry to hear that George has passed, he was a wonderful and thoughtful person. I have great memories of him from my years growing up, all the Sunday dinners and trips to Bergenfield. I enjoyed many conversations with George about carpentry(one of my passions and also his). Time has moved us all apart but the memories will endure a lifetime. Our deepest sympathies at this time. Love always, Franco, Caryn, SaraLena, and Carissa

We were deeply saddened to hear about your Dad. We did have the opportunity to see George at ShopRite at few days before his home-going and as usual he had his big smile and impish grin. George was a wonderful man and will be sorely missed. Our deepest condolences to your entire family. May the LORD strengthen and comfort you. God bless <><
