Gerald P. Tyne

Gerald “Gerry” Peter Tyne, 78, of Bergenfield, New Jersey passed away on September 25, 2026.

Born January 4, 1948, in Teaneck NJ, Gerry was a proud graduate of St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in History from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, and later earned a master’s degree in Special Education.

Gerry dedicated much of his life to serving others. He volunteered as a teacher and counselor at Boys Town, worked with the Bergenfield Public Schools as a football and basketball coach, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. A defense attorney who loved his work, he ran his own law practice, Tyne and Tyne. His generosity extended well beyond his professional obligations, as Gerry frequently provided legal assistance to friends and others in need without expecting anything in return.

The greatest love of Gerry’s life was his wife, Veronica Victoria Tyne. The two first crossed paths professionally when Veronica was working as a Realtor and Gerry as an attorney. A love story that began in 1986 and grew into 24 beautiful years of marriage. Gerry welcomed Veronica's children, Anthony Penn and Veronica Penn-Turner into his life and loved them as his own. He was also a loving father-in-law to Michael Turner and proud grandfather to Dejah Turner, Korey Turner, and Skye Noel Penn.

An avid golfer and animal lover, Gerry enjoyed Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, the Giants, the Yankees, his son Anthony’s gourmet cooking, Motown, and hearing his son- in-law Michael sing. He loved attending games at St. Peter’s Prep, driving his black convertible Corvette, and spending time with the Loyal Order of the Raccoons where he was playfully the Grand High Exalted Mystic Ruler. A proud Irish Catholic and former altar boy, Gerry carried throughout his life a strong sense of loyalty, service, friendship, and generosity.

Gerry was preceded in death by sister, Winifred DeScepolo, brother, Jeffrey Tyne, and brother, Victor Tyne. He is survived by his beloved wife, Veronica Victoria Tyne; children, Anthony Penn and Veronica Penn-Turner; son-in-law, Michael Turner; grandchildren, Dejah Turner, Korey Turner, and Skye Noel Penn; brothers, Barry and Andy Tyne; nephews, Brian Tyne, Michael Tyne, and Brendan Tyne; niece, Jennifer Tyne; as well as his other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, collegues, extended family, and friends.

Gerry will be remembered for his generosity, loyalty, humor, love of family and animals, and his willingness to help those who needed him. He leaves behind not only an accomplished life, but a legacy of love, friendship and countless memories shared with the people fortunate enough to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Gerry’s memory to Alzheimer’s New Jersey, helping provide care, support, education, and resources to New Jersey families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
