James D. Elliott (“Jim”), 74, of Manchester Township, NJ, was welcomed back home to God on May 9th, 2026. He was predeceased by his father James L. Elliott. He was the cherished husband of Jane (nee Caccavale) and adored by his daughter Gina Agderian and her husband Adam. Jim was the loving son of Rita Elliott (nee Schaum) and brother of Michael Elliott and his wife Debbie. Jim also leaves behind many brothers and sisters in the law enforcement and firefighting communities.
Jim was born on April 24th, 1952, in Manhattan and was raised in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. He was a 1970 graduate of River Dell High School. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam war. He had also been a volunteer firefighter with the River Edge Fire Department in River Edge, NJ.
Jim served 27 years of his life in law enforcement, first as a corrections officer at the Bergen County Jail, and then as a police officer on the Palisades Interstate Parkway. He later transferred to the Bergenfield Police Department in 2002, where he finished out the remainder of his law enforcement career. He proudly answered the call of duty on September 11th, 2001, on the New Jersey side, and he worked hard to keep his community safe. Jim was also a member of the New Jersey Honor Legion, which he was inducted into after going above and beyond the call of duty while saving a pregnant woman from taking her own life.
As fair and honest of a police officer as he was, Jim’s greatest legacy is the one he leaves with his wife, daughter, family, and friends. Jim was a loving husband, an amazing father, and a friend to all. His family was always his priority, and his wife Jane and his daughter Gina were the light of his world. He had the most kind, generous heart, and would do anything to help anyone. Jim was a good man, and he really had a wonderful life.
