James S. Harrington

November 16, 1923 — May 11, 2015

James S. Harrington (Jim), age 91, formerly of Cresskill, NJ passed away peacefully May 11th, 2015. Jim was born and raised in County Roscommon, Ireland. In 1955 he visited his brother in America, fell in love, married Mary Ellen Daly and became an American Citizen. He was born a farmer but made his living as a truck driver. A resident of Cresskill for 48 years, parishioner of Saint Therese Church and member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim was employed by Grand Union in Carlstadt for nearly 40 years. In retirement Jim could be found strolling around Cresskill or greeting mourners at Riewerts Memorial Home in Bergenfield - he always had a smile and kind word for everyone he met. He was pre-deceased by his wife Mary Ellen, his parents Patrick and Mary Kate Harrington and several siblings. During his life he was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by James and his wife Mary Jane of Hewitt, NJ, Kathleen Harrington of Long Branch, NJ and US Army Brigadier General Joseph Patrick Harrington and his wife Nancy of Innsworth, UK. Cherished grandfather of Shawn, Liam, Aidan and Patrick; and brothers Edward and Terrance as well as countless nieces and nephews. Visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield. All will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 10am for the Funeral Mass at St. Therese R.C. Church in Cresskill at 11am. Interment Maryrest Cemetery, Mahwah.
