James M. Whalen

James M. Whalen, 88, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018, in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He was born in New York, on March 15, 1930, to John Whalen and Elsie Breitenbach. James graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science and later served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was employed for 17 years with the United States Postal Service before he retired in 1993. In retirement, he moved to Florida and traveled the U.S. in his RV before settling in Colorado. He enjoyed taking walks and spending time with his grandchildren and continued to be an avid NY Giants fan. James was preceded in death by his wife, Mary T. Serino Whalen and is survived by his two sons, James and Thomas Whalen of New Jersey and his daughter Nancy Whalen Graham and husband Billy of Colorado. He has three surviving grandchildren Courtney, Jarod and Drew Graham. Visiting Wednesday 4 -8 PM at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield. All will gather at the funeral home on Thursday at 9 AM for the Funeral Mass at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield at 10 AM. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
