Joan C. Compton (neé Wild), of Bergenfield, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Neal Compton, with whom she shared 32 devoted years of marriage.
Joan was a loving and dedicated mother to Nancy Compton; Susan Agamy and her husband Ayman; William Compton; and Amanda Dover and her husband Brian. She was a cherished grandmother to Taline, Katya, and Dean Agamy, and Chloe Lewis-Dover, who brought her great joy and pride.
She was the dear sister of Patricia Spear, John Wild, Frederick Wild Jr., Barbara Christiano, and Richard Wild, and was predeceased by her sister Constance Poole and her brother James Wild.
Joan lived a life rooted in faith, service, and compassion. She was an active member of her church and served her community faithfully as secretary of the Bergenfield Zoning Board. Throughout her life, Joan consistently put others before herself—visiting shut-ins, caring for the elderly, and offering comfort and kindness wherever it was needed.
When her children were young, Joan was deeply involved in their lives and activities, serving as a Girl Scout leader, coach, and school volunteer and attending their many musical performances, sporting events, plays, and other activities. Her quiet generosity, steady presence, and willingness to help others left a lasting impact on all who knew her.
Memorial visiting will take place at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 South Washington Avenue, Bergenfield, on Monday, December 29th, from 3:00 to 7:00pm. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home that evening at 6:00pm.
