John F. Callaghan, born at Leamnaguila, Kilcummin, on the 19th of August, 1933, the oldest of five children. John worked the family farm until he emigrated to NYC in 1956.

In little more than a year he served his new country in the Army, got a job with the MTA driving a bus in the Bronx and became a life long member of the Transport Workers Union.

After retiring, we all went back to Kilcummin Ireland and Dad got a job driving a lorry for Johnny Doyle.

When we went back to America, he worked for the Bergenfield schools and ended up at Jefferson Elementary as head custodian when he retired.

John took a job at the Actor’s Home driving residents to their doctors and Broadway shows, and driving celebrities back and forth from the City. He then finally retired for good.

John is survived by his daughters Mary Ann Fitzgerald, Pat Vetter (Tommy), Bridget Callaghan-Kane (Joe), and his son Michael (Vera) He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren Katherine, John, Dennis, Kerry, and Michael, as well as his great Granddaughters Mia and Cecilia. He is also survived by his sisters Eileen and Breeda.

John was predeceased by his wife Eileen, his Son-In-Law Ben Fitzgerald, his parents Michael and Bridget, and his brothers Dermot and Jimmy.

John is reposing at Riewerts Memorial Home 187 S. Washington Ave Bergenfield, Thursday, June 18 from 4-8 pm, with Mass the following morning 10 am at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church 29 No. Washington Ave Bergenfield. Burial directly afterwards at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital stjude.org or the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance bergenfieldambulance.org/donate
