Joseph C. Follayttar

Follayttar, LTC Joseph C., 94, on March 30, 2005 of Bergenfield, NJ. He is survived by beloved wife Rose of 69 years. Devoted father of Joseph II and wife Sherry and James all of Maine, daughter Barbara and husband Frank Lacatena of Lake Stockholm, NJ. Loving grandfather of Cristina, Kate, Jay, Julie, Marie, Steve and great granddaughter Jennifer. He is predeceased by a daughter Elizabeth Veran, a brother Charles Follayttar and grandson Peter Lacatena. Before retiring in 1972, he was librarian of Teaneck High School, from 1939 to 1972. He also served as Library Director of Lodi Memorial Library, Lodi. Joseph was a 1933 graduate of Lafayette College, Easton, PA with a Bachelor of Science degree. He had a Library Science degree from Trenton State College and a Master's Degree from Montclair State College. He also was a graduate of the US Command and General Staff College in Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel AUS in the Transportation Corps with service in the South Pacific from Guadacanal to the invasion of Okinawa while attached to the 6th Marine Division. He was a member of St. John's Church, Holy Name Society, St. John's Senior Citizens, American Library Ass'n, the New Jersey Library Ass'n, the Nat'l Edu. Ass'n, the NJ Teachers Ass'n, the Retired Officers Ass'n, the Reserve Officers Ass'n, the American Legion of NJ and Friends of the Library. The funeral will leave Riewerts Memorial Home Inc. 187 So. Washington Ave. Bergenfield, NJ on Saturday at 10:30 AM for the Funeral Liturgy at St. John's R.C. Church, Bergenfield, NJ at 11 AM. Interment Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. The family will receive friends on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Please omit flowers. Donations may be made to the American Heart Ass'n.
