Thompson, Norman R. on November 10, 2004 of Saddle River, NJ. Beloved husband of Gertrude Thompson (nee: Irving), devoted father of Erik Vatne Thompson (and his future wife Jennifer Poole) and Clifford Jay Thompson (and his future wife Jenette Bello), dear brother of Barbara Mertz and Arnold Thompson, loving grandfather of Dylan Gerard Thompson. Norman was born in Hoboken, New Jersey on December 8, 1936 and grew up in Dumont. He was an All-League Guard and was awarded the Art Hemmer Trophy as the most valuable player on Dumont High School's football team. He was inducted into the Dumont High School Football Hall of Fame. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was a successful small business owner in the 70's and 80's and worked for Allstate Insurance for forty-four years. He was one of the top-producing agents in the country and won numerous awards and trophies. He was a friend of Bill W for thirty years. In recent years he had the opportunity to travel with his family to Norway, Italy, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Alaska. Norman had a beautiful tenor voice and sang as a soloist with the Equitable Choral Club in the late 1950's. Funeral service at Riewerts Memorial Home Inc., 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield, NJ on Saturday at 10AM. Cremation at Laurel Grove Crematory, Totowa, NJ. The family will receive friends on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
