Richard Edward Anderson

June 17, 1948 — February 5, 2023

Magnolia, DE

Richard E. Anderson passed away on February 5, 2023. The loving husband and joyful father and grandfather was 74. Rich was born in Jersey City, NJ, to George and Elizabeth Anderson. He was the second youngest of six siblings and attended Union City Public Schools. After serving his country in Vietnam, Rich returned home and married the love of his life, Arlene. While Rich had a long career in the financial services sector, the best part of his workday was coming home. He cherished time with family, especially the hours spent in the kitchen and around the table. Rich was an enthusiastic and skilled home chef. Not many people can make equally delicious versions of sauerbraten and bolognese. Rich could. Rich’s contributions to fraternal organizations were deep and profound. Rich was a Master Mason and member of Secaucus-Hudson Lodge No. 72 for 52 years. He also served as a past Right Worshipful Grand Lodge of NJ Officer and was recognized by the Scottish Rite as a 33rd degree Mason. In the Order of the Eastern Star of NJ, Rich was a member of Tilden Chapter No. 59 and Past Grand Patron. He was active in the Order of DeMolay throughout his life, and he also served as Assistant to the Grand Master for the NJ Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows. Rich was a man of faith, from his service as a Deacon at Clinton Avenue Reformed Church to his perennial hopes for the Yankees and Giants. In 2017, after a lifetime in New Jersey, Rich retired with Arlene to Delaware and brought his infectious wit and good humor to his new neighbors in Magnolia. Poker tables and golf greens would never be the same. Rich was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Robert, Donald, and Russell Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Arlene; daughter Kristin Anderson; son Scott (Tonia) Anderson and grandsons Benjamin and Sean; sister Elaine Christiansen; and brother Bill (Pat) Anderson. Family and friends are invited to visit at Riewerts Memorial Home (Bergenfield) Thursday February 9, 2-4pm and 7-9pm (OES service 7:30pm, Masonic service 8pm). A funeral service will be held at Old North Reformed Church (Dumont) on Friday February 10, 11am.
