Robert (Bob) Chorey, 85, of Bergenfield, NJ passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at Brookdale Senior Living in Emerson, NJ. Robert was born in Yonkers, NY on May 12, 1940 to Michael and Mary Anne Chorey. He grew up in Yonkers and graduated from Saunders Trades & Technical High School. He was drafted into the Army in February 1962. Not long before joining the military he met Catherine, the woman who would become his wife. The majority of their courtship took place via the US Mail; with her in the Bronx and him in Germany. They wrote daily letters until he was Honorably Discharged in January 1964. On April 11, 1964, Robert and Catherine were wed at St. Brendan’s Church in the Bronx. They began their married life in Yonkers, NY, where they joyfully welcomed a son and later a daughter. In 1975 the family of four moved to Bergenfield, NJ. When the children were young, the family made annual trips to North Wildwood, NJ where many happy memories were made. Later on, Robert and Catherine enjoyed relaxing annual trips to Cape Cod every September for many years. They were married for over 51 years until Catherine passed in December 2015. Together, they built a beautiful life. Their love and devotion to each other exemplified what marriage is truly about.
Aside from being an avid Yankees and Giants fan, one of Robert’s greatest passions was golf. Every Sunday morning, almost year-round, he was at the golf course. He was always excited to play a new course and had a remarkable memory for just about every hole on every course he ever played. One of his golf highlights was playing Pebble Beach in California. He shot his first Hole in One on July 18, 1958 at the Dunwoodie Golf Course in Yonkers, NY. Robert would never pass up the opportunity to play a round, or two. In his early years he played mainly at Van Courtland Park in the Bronx before moving on to the Bergen County Public courses and the Northwood Golf Club. Several times in the early 2000’s he won the Bergen County Senior Championship.
Robert spent the bulk of his working life as a Route Salesman for Entenmann’s. After retiring from Entenmann’s, he went on to work part-time for the Bergen County Parks department at several county golf courses. If he wasn’t playing golf, he’d be talking about golf, he truly loved the game.
In 2016 Robert was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Over his remaining years it slowly limited his movements and balance. The progression of symptoms eventually forced him to put away his golf clubs for good. That was truly a sad day for him. His job at the golf course helped him to stay connected to his golf community for several more years. The disease however continued to progress, and in recent months, his health declined and he died peacefully in his sleep. Knowing that he is reunited with his beloved wife is a tremendous comfort to the family.
Robert was a devoted husband and loving father. His family always came first. He is survived by his son Thomas and wife Donna of Middletown, NY, daughter Kathleen and husband George of Emerson, NJ, cherished grandchildren, Shawn and Brittany Chorey and Kevin and Kaitlyn Carey as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed.
Visiting is Thursday 3/19 from 4-8 PM at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington Ave. Bergenfield. The Funeral Mass will be at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, Bergenfield on Friday 3/20 at 11:30 AM. Interment is at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
