Robert Nicholson

August 2, 1939 — March 21, 2024

Nicholson , Robert 84 was called home to the Lord on Thursday, March 21, 2024 peacefully surrounded by his family after a short illness. Predeceased by his grandson, Zachary, his parents James and Mary (nee Bollon) his sister Marilyn and her husband Joe, his nephew Michael and his brother. Robert was known by many different names; Rob, Bob, Bobby, Nicky and his most treasured name Grampy.
Robert grew up in the South Bronx working in the stables, helping with the horse drawn carriage horses. After graduating from HS, Robert went on to be a master butcher for first Dietch Shopwell, which became A&P and then later changed to Food Emporium from where he retired. He meet the love of his life Mary Ann in the Bronx, showing off his "fancy" new car with his buddy Eddie. Years and 3 children later, they moved the family "across the river" to New Jersey, where he's lived there ever since. Robert enjoyed gardening, working on the cars and fixing things around the house.  Later on he and Mary Ann would travel to different states, countries and destinations, making life long friends along the way. His greatest job came when he became Grampy to Cole. They would go out shopping, do activities and have special ice cream dates. Boy the man loved his ice cream.
Robert is survived by his wife of 60+ years Mary Ann, his daughters Christine, Laura and Suzanne, his beloved grandson Cole, many nieces and nephews (especially the LI crew) and tons of friends he made along the years.
