Sr. Mary Francis Dabrowski, MFIC
November 24, 1924 - December 28, 2019
Sr. Mary Francis Dabrowski, MFIC, 95, died peacefully in Our Lady of Angels Infirmary in Tenafly, NJ, on Saturday December 28, 2019. A native of Syracuse/Solvay, NY, she was born Rose Gertrude to Anthony Dabrowski and Stella Lasinski. Sr. Francis was proud of her Polish heritage and customs. She loved gardening and cooking.
She began her ministry of Parish and Catechetical work at St. Mary of the Assumption in Binghamton from 1946-1955. She taught primary grades in St. Mary School in Little Falls, MN, from ‘55- ‘61. She then began a life-time commitment to Religious Education in Binghamton, Syracuse, Richboro, PA, and back to Binghamton from ’81 to ’91 at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. Sr. Francis spent a year in England as chaplain in St. Francis Nursing Home. She continued her chaplaincy work at University Hospital in Syracuse from 1998 to 2004. She retired to Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter’s Parish but was very much active in outreach, especially to refugees, RCIA and Religious Education. In 2013 Sr. Francis moved to our Retirement Home and Infirmary in Tenafly, NJ. She remained active and interested in reading and hearing about all the places she was involved in ministry.
Sr. Francis shared that the ministry she was the proudest of was working with the refugees from Burundi who settled on the North Side of Syracuse near Our Lady of Pompei Church. She became a friend, a mentor, an advocate and a “Grandmother” to so many of the children and young people who gravitated toward her for help.
Sister is survived by her sister Theresa Zera of Syracuse. She is predeceased by her parents, her brother Anthony, her sisters Celia Smura and Jane Babinski. She is greatly appreciated by her Community of Missionary Franciscan Sisters who will miss her, yet thank God that she is at Home with the Lord to enjoy her Eternal Reward.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday January 3, 2020 in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel, 253 Knickerbocker Rd., Tenafly, NJ at 11:00. Burial will be at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ. Riewerts Memorial Home in Bergenfield, NJ is handling all the arrangements.
Donations may be made in memory of Sr. Mary Francis Dabrowski to the Retirement Fund of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters, 253 Knickerbocker Road, Tenafly, NJ 07670.
May this wonderful, faith-filled woman committed to our Lord rest in His peace. She has been a great inspiration to me all my life and has been the "link" for me to the Lasinski family I never met and to my father whom I lost at the age of four. I will miss our correspondence but am grateful she died peacefully and is now in the arms of our Lord and amongst her family. Grant her eternal rest O Lord.
