Stephen Thomas Cook

December 12, 1951 — January 1, 2021

Stephen Thomas Cook, 69, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 1, 2021.
Stephen was born on Oct 12, 1951 in Weehawken NJ, to parents Clarence Cook and Marion McDonald, and raised in Demarest. Steve graduated from Englewood School for Boys in 1970, where he excelled in cross county and broke school records. He worked as a residential carpenter for many years and in 1986, proudly became a union carpenter for the Passaic Carpenters & Millwrights Local 124. His career as a Construction Superintendent in New York City began in 1994 and spanned 26 years. His love of New York City drew him to continue working in the city until his retirement in 2020.
For 33 years Steve lived in Bergenfield, devoting himself to his loving family, his career, volunteerism and his music. Steve was a devoted Boy Scout leader for both Pack and Troop 139 and Pack and Troop 180. He was an assistant coach, for all his children’s sports, including soccer, baseball, softball and basketball. He was passionate about supporting his children in all of their interests, including ice skating, horseback riding, marching band, and BMX biking.
An avid fisherman of both fresh and saltwater, he spent his time fishing with his children, grandchildren, friends and scouts, at Lake Sebago, Camp Yaw Paw, the shore, and various lakes and streams throughout NY & NJ.
His music resonated at the core of his heart. He filled his home with his acoustical guitar playing of folk, gospel, blues and ragtime music. One of his favorite songs was “I’m Going Home Someday” by Roy Book Binder. He had a long-standing love of the game of 3 cushion billiards.
He was a loving, kind, patient, hard-working, funny man, who’s faith and devotion to his family was unwavering.
Steve is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jane (Norville), daughter Meredith (Dan Muzzio), son Shane, daughter Caitlyn, son Robert, sisters Kathleen (Mark Wilson), Patricia Cook and Cathy Hunt, grandson Alexander and granddaughter Charlotte. He dearly loved his brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws and his many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held on Friday, Jan 29, from 6-9 pm at Riewerts Funeral Home, 187 S. Washington Ave, Bergenfield, NJ 07621. A short service will be held at 8 pm.
