William L. Helferich

William “Bud” Helferich was born in Englewood, NJ and lived most of his life in Haworth. Born to William T. and Harriet (Bender) Helferich, Bud attended Haworth Public School through 8th Grade and graduated from Dumont High School. Following graduation, he served his country as a radio operator in the United States Marine Corps. Returning home after the Second World War, he married his beloved, Virginia Marie Bush, and they welcomed four children into their family. Bud worked in the auto industry for many years, primarily as a service manager for several dealerships. He was also a long-time member of the Haworth police auxiliary and an ordained Elder in his church. Bud enjoyed his family, his church family, his second home in Cherry Valley NY, and his 1939 John Deere tractor. He dabbled in gardening, hunting and cabinetry. He loved classical music, crossword puzzles and football. He is predeceased by his wife Virginia, his son Paul Helferich, and his sister Florence Frei Scott. He is remembered with love by his surviving children (William S. Helferich, Rhonda Myers and Meryl Earl), as well as his 5 grandchildren (Kimberly Conti, Matthew Myers, Joshua Myers, Benjamin Myers and Emily Earl), his 3 step-grandchildren (Michael Sgarella, John Sgarella and Tony Sgarella) his 7 great-grandchildren and his 7 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral Arrangements are provided by Riewerts Funeral Home, 187 S. Washington Avenue, Bergenfield.
