William "Bill" J. O'Boyle, 89, of Bergenfield NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 13th in Villa Marie Claire Hospice Saddle River, NJ with his loving daughter Anne by his side.
He was born in Minersville, PA September 26, 1924 and was a graduate of Cass Township High School. In 1943, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was accepted into the Officer Candidate School where he became a commissioned officer and fighter pilot. He served in the United States Air Force division until 1945 during World War II. After his active service, he remained a member of the American Legion. He was employed by Nabisco/Standard Brands, where he met his wife, for 44 years until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement, he enjoyed his monthly luncheons with the Nabisco Retirees. He was a devoted parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Bergenfield, NJ. Bill was a person with a generous heart who lived for helping others and was a beloved neighbor who always lent a helping hand to anyone in need. William was predeceased by his loving wife, Magdalen Pitel O'Boyle, as well as sisters Elizabeth Schappell and Winifred Rhodes, and brothers Lawrence and Michael. He is survived by his daughter Mary O'Boyle and her husband William Keen Jr. of Encinitas CA and daughter Anne Vlahos and her husband Dean of Waitsfield VT; grandchildren Nina and Kimberly Keen and Elaina and Karsten Vlahos; brothers Raymond of Minersville PA and Robert of Washington DC and sister Clare of Minersville PA; many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 S. Washington Ave, Bergenfield, on Friday, July 18th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held in his honor on Saturday, July 19th at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic church in Bergenfield, NJ with interment at Mount Carmel cemetery in Tenafly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill's name to the local Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 42 in Bergenfield, NJ or Villa Marie Claire in Saddle River, NJ where he received exceptional care
