Obituary

Edwin L. Braun

Husband, Father, Opa & CPA

Edwin L. Braun, 74, of Bergenfield, passed away on June 5, 2020 surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Paterson, N.J., he was the son of the late Edwin and Theresa Braun. Ed grew up in Clifton, N.J. before settling down in Bergenfield more than 40 years ago.

He is survived by Pat, his beloved wife of 48 years; his daughters, Kelly Braun (Nick Montello) of Haworth, Kimberly Braun (Matt LeFurge) of Hoboken, and Carrie Bryer (Dan Bryer) of Paramus; his granddaughters Kaitlyn Montello, Jillian Montello, Becca Bryer and Juliana Bryer; his brother, Ray Braun (Jayne) of Mantoloking; two sisters, Mary Braun of Jupiter, FL, and Terry Kronz (Jack), of Boynton Beach, FL.

Ed was a certified public accountant, successfully operating his own business for close to 40 years and spent time as an adjunct professor of accounting at Montclair State University.  Ed had over 300 clients who often visited his home office and became his friends.  Ed would often provide his services in exchange for a crate of pears, a future favor, or even heartfelt thanks.

Above all else, Ed loved his family.  Ed showed his love every day in big and small ways; whether he was hosting his annual Christmas party, supporting his daughters and granddaughters at concerts and dance recitals, coaching softball, leading family vacations, or always being there for his siblings.  If it was important, Ed was there.  He truly enjoyed spending his free time at the Elks Club in Bergenfield with his fellow Elks but he was never happier than when he spent time with his family on Long Beach Island.  He especially loved playing in the ocean with his granddaughters, taking them for ice cream or cruising the strip in his convertible.

A public viewing for visitors to pay their respects will be held at Riewerts Memorial Home on Tuesday, June 9th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The family asks that visitors wear masks. Due to public gathering restrictions, a private interment will take place at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus on Wednesday, June 10th.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Surflight Theatre in Beach Haven, NJ at www.surflight.org or to the Bergenfield Elks Scholarship fund in Ed’s name at West Church Street in Bergenfield, NJ.
